Empowering Frontline Responders: FICCS Delivers Lifesaving Training at Cardiotan Zanzibar

As part of its mission to strengthen emergency cardiac care across Africa, the Foundation for International Cardiac and Community Services (FICCS) led a focused training session during Cardiotan Zanzibar, equipping healthcare providers with critical lifesaving skills in the management of acute cardiac emergencies.

Held in the heart of Zanzibar, the training offered participants an immersive learning experience, combining expert instruction, practical simulations, and globally recognized certification. With a strong emphasis on Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), the program aimed to build competence and confidence among medical professionals who are often the first point of contact in emergencies.

Participants were trained in:

  • Recognizing and responding to cardiac arrest
  • Performing high-quality CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Managing airway and breathing complications
  • Team-based resuscitation strategies in high-pressure settings

The hands-on nature of the training ensured that skills were not just taught, but ingrained through repetition, feedback, and real-life scenarios relevant to the local healthcare environment.

“In emergencies, your first few minutes count the most. At Cardiotan, we focused on helping providers trust their training and act without hesitation,” shared a FICCS instructor.

The session concluded with ACLS certification, affirming each participant’s readiness to respond effectively in critical moments. Beyond skills, the training fostered a deeper sense of preparedness and teamwork among Zanzibar’s frontline responders.

Through initiatives like Cardiotan, FICCS continues to invest in sustainable healthcare development, one training, one provider, one heartbeat at a time.
